REACHING AND INVESTING IN YOUTH FOR SUSTAINABLE EMPLOYMENT

RISE is an innovative workforce program that equips teens and young adults with the skills and resources they need to be successful professionals.

What makes the RISE Program different? We PAY YOU TO LEARN AND WORK!

That’s right, The Warehouse knows that in order for the next generation to be professionally successful, we need to first provide soft skill trainings that nurture the whole person, such as time management, financial literacy, interview preparedness, mindful meditation, and more!

Next, we help you find the right path forward that supports individual goals and dreams. This plan looks different for everyone, but The Warehouse is here to help guide and direct each individual towards the education or career pathway that best supports dreams and aspirations.

How do I find the right career pathway?
The Warehouse provides a case manager who works with each teen and young adult individually to create a customized trajectory towards success.

RISE has two separate tracks: one for youth between the ages of 14-18 who are currently enrolled in school, and one for youth between the ages of 16-24 who are not currently enrolled in school.

In-School: Ages 14-18

During this 12-week program, teens spend the first eight weeks at The Warehouse learning needed soft skills before spending the remaining four-weeks with an employee partner such as The Buccini/Pollin Group or Planting to Feed, in their area of focus.

  • Week One – Welcome to RISE!
During the first week, teens are introduced to The Warehouse’s history and core values. The goal of this week is to learn about the history of The Warehouse and its core values.
  • Week Two – Multiplying Good
Teens embark on their first team assignment as RISE employees and complete one community service project with Multiplying Good, which provides young people the skills and knowledge to serve others.
  • Week Three – Opportunities vs. Barriers
Teens explore personal strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, as well as discussing important topics including trauma, and mental health.
  • Week Four – Career Readiness
During week four, teens dive into career exploration, including practicing job applications, creating resumes, and learning about the different pathways available to them.
  • Week Five – Education and Entrepreneurship
The fifth week of RISE covers two topics. First, RISE participants explore higher education, are introduced to representatives from local Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and the importance of being mentally and financially prepared for college. Next, teens are introduced to the basics of entrepreneurship including presentations from special guest speakers.
  • Week Six – Prepared and Certified
During the final weeks of the RISE program, teens continue to strengthen their public speaking skills via mock interviews with adult staff and program partners. Teens also receive specific certifications such as SERV Safe or First Aid/CPR.
  • Week Seven – Meet your Employer
Teens are introduced to RISE’s employer partners who will be their point of contact during the four-week externship phase. Throughout week seven, externship interviews are conducted, and teens have the opportunity to discuss schedules, positions, and ask questions related to their externship roles and responsibilities.
  • Week Eight – Strategies for Success
During the final week of training before RISE participants begin their externship, teens receive a review of the skills they gained throughout the program. Teens receive additional training in workplace safety, ethics, and diversity.
  • Week Eight through Twelve – Externship!
Over the next four weeks, graduates of the RISE program are placed into externship opportunities in their field of choice.

Out-Of-School: Ages 16-24

The RISE Out of School Youth program serves ages 16 to 24 who have encountered barriers to their personal success.  This could include individuals from low-income households, those in need of their GED as well as persons who are experiencing homelessness, returning citizens, pregnant or parenting.

The RISE program begins with eight weeks of on-site training at The Warehouse and includes soft skills such as career exploration and readiness as well as financial literacy. Participants are required to be on-site at The Warehouse, Monday through Friday, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Throughout the eight week training, participants are introduced to career exploration, financial literacy, customer service, and much more.

Following the completion of the initial eight week soft skills training, participants transition into their GED or career certification program at Delaware Technical Community College for a minimum of four additional week (time commitment varies based on the participant’s chosen certification).

What makes our program special is that throughout this entire process, teens and young adults are PAID TO LEARN AND WORK, allowing participants to generate additional income while they train for their next chapter.

After successfully completing the RISE Out of School Youth program, participants will possess the skills to gain and maintain employment in a high-growth, in-demand industry.  Participants who obtain their industry approved certificate can expect to receive annual salaries between $45,000 and $100,000.
